Understanding Pre-Selected Payment Methods at Checkout

Learn how pre-selected payment methods work in Ordermentum checkout, including when payment methods are automatically suggested, how you can change them, and how to disable them for specific suppliers.


Overview

When you place an order in Ordermentum, the platform may automatically suggest a saved payment method during checkout.

This helps create a faster and more seamless ordering experience, especially for customers who regularly place orders with multiple suppliers.

A payment method may be suggested when you have a saved payment method in Ordermentum, but have not set a default payment method for that supplier.

Suggested payment methods may include:

  • Credit / Debit Card

  • Direct Debit

To improve the checkout experience, Ordermentum introduced several updates to payment method pre-selection:

  • Clearer messaging when a payment method is suggested

  • The ability to disable a saved payment method for specific suppliers

  • A post-checkout prompt encouraging faster future checkout setup


Benefits of Pre-Selected Payment Methods

Pre-selected payment methods are designed to make checkout simpler and more convenient.

Benefits include:

  • Faster checkout – complete your order with fewer steps.

  • Quicker reordering – avoid manually selecting or entering a payment method every time you place an order.

  • Fewer payment-related delays – helps ensure payment information is available when submitting orders.

  • A more consistent experience – use your preferred payment method across suppliers without needing to set it up repeatedly.

  • More control and flexibility – easily review, change, or disable payment methods for individual suppliers.


✅ You're Always in Control

While Ordermentum may suggest a payment method during checkout, the payment method is never hidden from you.

Before placing your order, you can:

  • Review the selected payment method

  • Change to a different payment method

  • Choose to pay the supplier directly

  • Choose whether to save the payment method for that supplier

The selected payment method is always displayed during checkout before an order is submitted.


How Pre-Selected Payment Methods Work

The suggested payment method is typically based on the payment method you most recently used in Ordermentum.

This means:

  • A payment method may appear during checkout even if it was not previously enabled for that supplier

  • The payment method is only suggested, not forced

  • You can change or disable it before placing your order


How to Change the Payment Method During Checkout

To change the payment method before placing an order:

  1. Go to the Payment Method section during checkout

  2. Tap > to Change

  3. Select:

  • another saved payment method (if available)

  • a new payment method — tap Add a new payment method

  • Pay the supplier directly (off platform)

4. Complete your order.


How to Enable or Disable a Payment Method for a Supplier

You can choose whether a payment method should be used with a specific supplier.

During checkout:

  1. Review the payment method shown

  2. Find the toggle: Enable this payment method for [Supplier Name]

  3. Turn the toggle:

    • ON → save the payment method for that supplier

    • OFF → do not save or use the payment method for that supplier


Faster Checkout Prompt After Ordering

After placing an order, you may see a prompt encouraging you to enable saved payment methods for faster future checkout with suppliers.

From this prompt, you can:

  • Enable a payment method for individual suppliers

  • Disable a payment method for specific suppliers

  • Manage which suppliers can use your saved payment methods


Important Notes

  • Pre-selected payment methods are suggestions only

  • You can still select Pay Direct during checkout

  • Previously disabled payment methods will no longer automatically re-enable themselves

  • Your selected payment method is always shown before you place an order


FAQs

Why was my card or Direct Debit automatically selected?

Ordermentum may automatically suggest a saved payment method to help speed up checkout when no supplier-specific default payment method exists.

Will Ordermentum charge my payment method automatically?

Only if Credit Card or Direct Debit is selected when you place the order. You can review and change the selected payment method before submitting your order.

Can I still pay suppliers directly?

Yes. During checkout, tap Change (>) and select Pay the supplier directly before placing your order.

What happens if I disable a payment method for a supplier?

The payment method will no longer be automatically enabled for that supplier during checkout.

Why was my payment processed through Ordermentum?

If Credit Card or Direct Debit was selected when the order was placed, the payment will be processed through Ordermentum according to the supplier's payment terms.

I disabled a payment method before. Why isn't it being suggested anymore?

Payment methods that have been disabled for a supplier will no longer be automatically re-selected during checkout.

What if I don't have any saved payment methods?

If you haven't saved a payment method in Ordermentum, no payment method will be pre-selected during checkout. You can add a payment method from your account settings or during the checkout process.
